Production of BIO Diesel from Waste Cooking OIL

Project Objective:

Our project is designed to tackle two crucial environmental challenges simultaneously: the appropriate disposal of used cooking oil and the reduction of reliance on fossil fuels. Our innovative method efficiently transforms waste cooking oil, which has significant environmental threats when improperly discarded, into high-grade biodiesel 


Key Project Aims:

  1. Optimal Resource Utilization: Our primary objective is to maximize the utilization of waste cooking oil, often disposed of irresponsibly, by converting it into a valuable energy resource. 
  2. Sustainable Energy: Through biodiesel production, we are contributing to a more sustainable energy landscape, minimizing the carbon footprint associated with traditional diesel fuel.
  3. Waste Minimization: Our project endeavors to diminish waste and its detrimental environmental effects by repurposing discarded cooking oil. 
  4. Economic Feasibility: We evaluate the economic viability of small-scale biodiesel production, offering a waste management solution with potential economic benefits. 

Methodology: 

  • Our biodiesel production process involves a series of carefully defined steps: Oil Collection and Preparation: Collected from households and food restaurants, waste cooking oil undergoes particular preparation to eliminate impurities, water, and free fatty acids, ensuring the quality of the end product. 

Transesterification: 

  • The prepared oil is subjected to a chemical reaction with alcohol and a catalyst to yield biodiesel and glycerol. This process converts triglycerides present in the oil into biodiesel. 

Refinement:

  • The biodiesel undergoes a refining process to eliminate any remaining impurities and byproducts, enhancing its quality and stability. 

Thorough Testing and Quality Assurance: 

  • Rigorous testing procedures are carried out to make sure that the biodiesel meets quality benchmarks and can be safely utilized as an alternative fuel. Testing of Biodiesel include Flash point, Specific Gravity, Calorific Value, Acid Number, 3/27, FTIR analysis and filed testing.
